Veterans Action Committee of Columbus

Our Team

 Connects the local veteran community, veteran service organizations, and military-related service organizations to increase situational awareness, promote related events, and strengthen bonds.


Identifies, investigates, and solves challenges for the veteran community at the lowest possible level.  


Advises elected local and state level leaders on matters about the veteran population within our community.


Enable our veteran community to continue to serve others through leadership of character and action. 

WE CARE VET FAIR COMING SEPtember 12!

United Military Care is hosting the We Care Vet Fair on Friday, September 12, at the Columbus Civic Center. This event will feature hundreds of veteran-focused support organizations, including the Georgia Department of Veterans Affairs. 


Planning meetings will occur at St. Luke’s Military Ministry Center, 301 11th St., Columbus, 31901 on the following dates:

  • June 10 - 9:00 AM
  • July 15 - 9:00 AM
  • August 20 - 9:00 AM

A light breakfast will be provided. Be sure to bring your business cards to network and connect with other local service organizations.

 We Care Vet Fairs draw thousands of veterans.

Local Veteran wins teacher of year

Congratulations to Army veteran Amanda Zarate! The Wynnton Arts Academy teacher was recently named the 2025 MCSD Teacher of the Year. Zarate, a former tank track mechanic, was chosen from 54 Teacher of the Year Honorees representing each school in the Muscogee County School District.

How do I talk to someone right now?

 

 If you’re a Veteran in crisis or concerned about one, connect with our caring, qualified Veterans Crisis Line responders for confidential help. Many of them are Veterans themselves. This service is private, free, and available 24/7.


Here’s how you can connect with a Veterans Crisis Line responder, anytime day or night:

  • Call 988 and select 1.
  • Text 838255.
  • Start a confidential chat.
  • If you have hearing loss, call TTY: 800-799-4889.


You can also take these actions:

  • Call 911.
  • Go to the nearest emergency room.
  • Go directly to your nearest VA medical center. It doesn’t matter what your discharge status is or if you’re enrolled in VA health care.
